Baby's first bike ride
Yesterday was July 4th & in Seattle, this is a big deal. Lake Union has a barge for the "Official" city celebration (sponsored by Chase Bank - formerly Washington Mutual).
At the north end of the lake is Gas Works Park - the park usually gets completely full by 2pm, though the fireworks don't start until 10pm.
The east & west sides of the lake are full of condos, apartments & houses and most places usually have a party or 3 going on - especially if the condo, apartment or house has a balcony or rooftop deck facing the lake.
The southern part of the lake is the business district - but that is rapidly changing thanks to investments by Paul Allen & Amazon.com & several real estate developers who are transforming this area into a work/play Mecca for the city. The southern part of the lake proper is usually filled with boats moored together or anchored in place to watch the show.
This year, I had been invited to 2 parties - both on the eastern side of the lake. Knowing that parking sucks in the area, I decided to stow my car near one of the parties & ride my bike home.
About 2 years ago, I fell off my bike & got banged up pretty good so I haven't been super keen on bike riding just in case I fall. For this reason, I grabbed my hybrid bike instead of my race bike (thicker tires = more stability) and just decided to do it. Plus, the route from Barb's place back to my place is mostly downhill, so I could coast & not really exert myself too much.
The ride went great! I managed to find a riding window where I could enjoy the streets by myself - with the exception of 1 transit bus that came closer to me than he should have (seriously, bus driver!).
The strangest part of the ride was feeling my belly on my thighs with each up-stroke of the pedal.
We made it home safely and I promised to ride again soon (maybe to work on Monday?).
Today's saddle sore is totally worth it...
THEN! Today, I learn that bike riding is too risky. Typical.
Babycenter.com provided a list of exercies that are safer... included among them... DANCING.
Where is that How-to-Thriller video!? I sense an internet sensation coming on!
